My Very First Surgery

Oh hi there! I wasn't expecting you! I was just going through Mommy's card purse before my surgery, heehee. Anyways, Mommy got a request for a post on how it all went, so here goes!

First of all I handled going without food AMAZINGLY!! I didn't even ask for milk more than once. Mommy even says I did fantastic in the outside waiting room and I was a good listener. I only went to time out once for climbing on chairs... oopsies! After waiting for way over an hour they finally called us back to a room where we waited for ANOTHER hour. I don't know how long that is, but it seemed like a really long time! I got to wear a Looney Tunes hospital gown that was kind of itchy, but at least I made it look cute! Don't you think?

Then it came time to go back and I didn't want to leave mommy. I was more than a little tired and hungry, and I wanted her to hold me. So I had a tantrum and wouldn't talk to anybody for a little while.

But then I decided to be brave. I got back into the bed. I held Baba (my blankie) and got ready to go.

It only took 30 minutes in surgery before they went to tell Mommy I was out and in recovery. She wasn't allowed to see me until I was totally awake and in the second recovery room, so when I woke up I was really scared. I screamed until they finally went and got Mommy from the waiting room. They told Mommy that it wasn't my ears hurting from the tubes so much as it was my throat. The doctor told her that they removed a TON of adenoid tissue. That just sounds yucky to me! But they went up my throat to scrape that out and that hurt a bunch! So I cried for a little over an hour and I threw the popsicle they gave me. I took some tylenol and they told Mommy I wasn't allowed to eat until we got out of the hospital. That's just the way they do things, but the doctor had said that I should be able to eat right away, I just probably wouldn't want to. So every time the nurses were out of sight Mommy snuck me applesauce and other fruits. That made me feel soooooo much better and I was finally able to sleep. Surgery makes a girl tired!

I had pretty bandaids on my ears holding the cotton in. I was so sleepy I slept for the next hour before I woke up when they were trying to take the monitors off me.

And here's a pic of me with Mommy. I was sad Daddy couldn't be there, but he got off on lunch right as I was going home so he spent his whole lunch hour with me! It was really fun and I even forgot about my throat for awhile. It was rough eating, but at the end of the day (and a few cookies later, teehee) I was feeling a little better. Daddy even bought be some ice cream!
So that's my story and I'm sticking to it! My very first surgery, getting tubes in my ears and an adenoidectomy! Thanks for reading and thanks everyone for worrying about me. Next post I'll surprise you all with some awesome pics of my new room!

Well, TTFN, ta ta for now!

Sincerely,
